Dekalb County - Superior Court - Writ Dockets
Scope and Contents
Writ dockets contain legal orders issued by the court commanding the person to whom it is directed to perform or refrain from performing a specified act. This series is composed of bound volumes containing such orders associated with civil complaints filed in the court. The supporting papers are also included. Information presented in these volumes documents (1) names of litigants, (2) date writ was recorded, (3) a description of the charge complained of, (4) orders to specified county officials (such as Sheriffs) to remedy such complaints and (5) judgement rendered. Entries are arranged and listed in chronological order by date of when the writ was recorded. Most of the charges complained of were those of debt and assumpsit but others include bills for discovery and relief, libels for divorce and trover.
