This series contains a great variety of departmental newsletters produced in a rather uneven succession over the years from 1966 to the present. Not only is there variety in format, but even the content changed considerably from time to time. It can generally be assumed that the Archives Advocate was aimed primarily at the department's staff members and hence the content is of a more personal nature. As the audience of the news letter expanded, so did the content. More professional news was included, announcements of seminars and other outreach programs appeared and even news of the activities of the Secretary of State became a regular feature.
