This series consists of bound volumes of tax digests which document the names of property owners residing in this county for the inclusive dates listed below and the type or and amount each owned. These volumes contain many schedules showing the value of different kinds of property. This inventory will only list the schedules used the most by the Commissioner, and those include (1) name of tax payer, (2) number of Georgia Militia District in which each resided (3) total number of acres of land owned, (4) aggregate value of land, (5) aggregate value of city or town property, (6) amount of money and solvent debts of all kinds, (7) value of merchandise, stocks and bonds (often omitted), (8) value of household furniture (9) value of plantation or mechanical tools, (10) value of crops, (11) aggregate value of whole property and (12) total tax each owner paid. Some schedules are included in some volumes and omitted in others. The number and value of slaves are included in volumes before 1866 and in the early volumes the value of crops schedule was omitted. The Tax Commissioner totals the amount of each above schedule and lists such amount for each Georgia Militia District. Other information listed includes (1) names of tax defaulters and the amount of property each has according to the listed schedules, (2) names of wild land owners, the number of acres, value thereof and county of residence in which located and (3) names of freedmen, the amount of property each owns, the name of their employer and the number of the Georgia Militia District in which each lives.
