Georgia Archives - New Georgia Guide - Editorial Board
Scope and Contents
This series contains original and xeroxed material of project coordinator Jane Powers Weldon's working files on the editorial board of The New Georgia Guide. The guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. A lead essay about the entire state unifies the guide. The editorial board was made up of historians, writers, and journalists. It submitted grant proposals to fund the project, hired the project coordinator, recommended and approved writers, contracts, and expenditures, and reviewed and critiqued all essays. Included are: (1) board minutes (2) correspondence (3) material on the Cultural Olympiad and (4) clippings.
