Georgia Archives - New Georgia Guide - Tours
Scope and Contents
This series contains original and photocopied material of project coordinator Jane Powers Weldon's working files on the Tours section for The New Georgia Guide. The guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. Tours highlighted the regions' culture, history, and natural resources. Included for each tour writer are: (1) correspondence between tour writers and project coordinator; (2) outlines, drafts, and writing samples; (3) manuscripts of tours; (4) proofs.
