This series contains original and copy prints of photos considered for The New Georgia Guide. Essayists and tour writers submitted suggestions for photos. The guide, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and published in 1996, was designed as an update of the WPA Guide to Georgia first published in 1940. It consists of essays and tours of nine different geographic regions of the state, each written by a separate author, with photographs and maps. The project coordinator and director selected photos from various archival collections and civic organizations. Some essayists and tour writers also submitted photos they took as part of the background research on their regions. Only about three of the images in this series were included in the book.
