Lieutenant Governor - Garland T. Byrd - Speech Files
Scope and Contents
This series consists of speech texts employed by Lieutenant Governor Byrd as maintained by his press secretary, John Robinson. Besides the texts themselves, there are some reference papers including Marvin Griffin's platform. It is important to note that there are considerable time gaps in these files. For example, there are no speeches in the files delivered during the second six months of 1961 and very few for the entire year of 1962, 1964 and 1965. There is only one file in the series from 1963 covering Carl Sanders' inauguration.

The speeches are arranged generally by date of delivery with some general speeches interfiled with no dated indicated. Included in the latter category are speeches to be delivered to visiting state guard units, an education speech and a speech defending the county unit system.
