This series consists of letters, memoranda, reports, studies and other papers relating to matters affecting the Game and Fish Department. (In July 1972, the Department became a Division of the Department of Natural Resources.) These are the office files of Mr. Jack Crockford, who was the Assistant Director of the Department at the time the records were created. The records relate primarily to the development of policies and the conduct of programs for protecting and improving the types and the environment of fish and wildlife in Georgia. Included are papers documenting the Department's participation in working with professional societies and other organizations concerned with fish, wildlife and the natural environment (such as the International Association of Game, Fish and Conservation Commissioners and the Atlantic Waterfowl Council). Also included are papers reflecting the Department's liaison with other State and Federal agencies that share an area of interest (such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Georgia, Water Quality Control Board and the U.S. Corps of Engineers). Also included are papers documenting the Department's participation in the governmental decision-making process concerning the feasibility of or the methods to be used in a wide variety of contemplated projects that would affect the natural environment (such as stream channelization, highway construction and water impoundment projects.) Another series, RGSGSERIES 25-1-4, Director's Subject Files, contains much the same type files as found here. Indeed, there are many instances in which the paperwork on a particular subject is divided between the two series. The major difference between the two series is that this series contains a higher percentage of data relating to the technical aspects of wildlife management, particularly inasmuch as the Assistant Director also served as the Department's Federal Aid Coordinator. The other series contains more information relating to the internal administration of the Department. Some of this series contains papers for the period after Mr. Crockford became Director and after the Department became a Division of the Department of Natural Resources.
