Public Service Commission - Hearing Reporter - Public Hearing Dockets
Scope and Contents
This series consists of Hearing Docket Books, one of the four elements that make up the complete Public Hearing Records Files. Authorized on October 4, 1954, the books, kept by the Secretary of the Commission, record all proceedings of matters assigned for public hearing, the time of such hearing and the appearances. Dockets "M", "R" and "U" were established and have been maintained since January 1, 1955. (These letters are contained in the docket number and signify what utility the dockets represent. The letter "M" stands for Motor Carrier, "R" stands for Railroad and "U" stands for Utility.) These dockets contain no minutes of action taken except date of action and the Minute Book in which the decision is recorded. In other words, these dockets serve as an index to RGSGSERIES 17-4-25, Public Hearing Records Files (Bound Verbatim Transcripts). The pages within the volumes are printed in a certain format which indicate the: (1) file number, (2) docket number, (3) statement of proceeding, (4) notice of assignment, (5) hearing date, (6) date case heard, (7) chairman presiding, (8) other commissioners present, (9) appearances for and against, (10) date case decided (11) commissioners present, (12) Minute Book number and (13) secretary's and chairman's signatures.
Also included are four docket books kept when the Public Service Commission was called The Railroad Commission. These earlier volumes generally give the: (1) term, (2) plaintiff and defendant, (3) application or petition, and (4) action requested or taken. Some volumes give the file number of the dockets with notations on postponement, cancellation or whether case was even heard. Most volumes have the cases numbered on the left hand margin of each page per term. The overall dates on the four volumes overlap in some instances.
