Scope and Contents

This series contains unbound writs of fieri facias (fi fas) or tax executions. These records show the person in tax arrears, the amount of money owed and the date. They were usually signed by a justice of the peace or the tax collector. These records were found in the sheriff's office of the courthouse since one of the sheriff's duties at the time was to serve the fi fa upon the tax defaulter so named on the record.

The records have been foldered and are arranged chronologically by date of fi fa and thereunder alphabetically by surname of the person named on the record. There is an inventory located in the front of each box listing the contents of that particular box.
