Scope and Contents
In 1967,the General Assembly approved legislation (GA Laws 1967, pp 252 - 259) which greatly expanded the Bureau's (now called Dept. of Community Affairs) duties and powers, and transferred the Bureau to the Executive Department. These new duties gave the Bureau the responsibility of working with other state departments, bureaus, and agencies, helping them to study their development plans and increase efficiency in performing their functions. The Bureau would also give planning advice and assistance to committees of the General Assembly, local governments and other public bodies, including multi state planning commissions created by Congress. The correspondence, study plans, etc., of which this series is composed, was created after the Bureau's duties were expanded. The material consists largely of correspondence between the Director and other governmental agencies. The composition of the material is the following: (1) Preliminary statement of State Planning Program; (2) Memorandums; (3) Legislative charges; (4) P - 45 consultants Draft Applications for "701" grants; (5) P - 45 pre - applications program study outlines; (6) Personnel qualifications; (7) Drafts and proposals for a State Planning and Programming Bureau; (8) Outlines of initial phases of state planning; (9) State Planning Budget; (10) Correspondence in support of Bureau; (11) Correspondence with Economic Development Administration; (12) Planning Division activities; (13) Correspondence with Secretary of Housing Urban Development Administration; (14) List of industrial developers; (15) Correspondence with Advisory Committee of Intergovernmental Relations; (16) Correspondence with Area Development Planning Agencies; (17) Correspondence with Council of State Planning agencies; (18) Correspondence with Governor of Georgia; (19) Correspondence with Council of Southeastern State Planning Agencies; (20) Correspondence, memorandums, etc. with Coastal Plains Regional Commission, and (21) Correspondence with Atlanta Region Metropolitan Planning Commission.
