Scope and Contents
This series contains loose original petitions and orders from the Court of Ordinary of Oglethorpe County. Included in the petitions and orders are (1) applications for commission of lunacy, (2) applications for administration of estate, (3) applications for letters of permanent administration, (4) administrator's bonds, (5) applications for and orders granting letters of dismission, (6) applications for and orders granting leave to sell real estate, (7) applications for and orders granting leave to sell personal property, (8) applications for leave to rent real estate, (9) applications for substitution of guardianship, (10) applications for temporary administration of estate, (11) applications for leave to encroach upon a ward's estate, (12) applications for relief from making returns on estates, (13) schedules of exempt property and (14) resignations as constables. There is no consistency to the kinds of files found in this series. This series has records that are also found in Series 1 and 6 of the record group. On the back of most petitions and orders is the book and page where the files are recorded although no effort has been made to compare the completeness of this file with the recorded copies of the petition and order volumes of the county.
