Oglethorpe County - Superior Court - Civil and Criminal Case Files
Scope and Contents
This series contains unbound original civil and criminal cases of the Superior Court of Oglethorpe County. These cases involve: (1) promissory notes with and without judgments, (2) judgement bonds, (3) subpoenas, (4) caveats against wills, (5) ejectments, and (6) misdemeanors of various types. The misdemeanor files include: (1) vagrancy, (2) cheating and swindling, (3) enticing away a servant, and (4) simple larceny. Along with these records are City Court and Justice of the Peace cases since at that time the clerk of the Superior Court was often the clerk of the Inferior Court. On the back of most cases is the book and page where the files are recorded although no effort has been made to compare the completeness of this file with the recorded copies in the clerk's office of the Superior Court. This series also has records that are found in RGSGSERIES 209-1-9, Miscellaneous Unbound Records of the Superior Court.
