Scope and Contents
This series consists of: (1) correspondence, memoranda, and supporting papers between the unit and Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Washington, the Governor, etc.; (2) materials documenting task force meetings (agenda, minutes, etc.;), and (3) related material created by the Community and Economic Development unit of the Department of Community Affairs. The Appalachian Regional Commission Health program was transferred from the Intergovernmental Relations Division of the Office of Planning and Budget to Community and Economic Development, a unit directed by the Planning and Programming Division of the Department of Community Affairs. The program administers and coordinates federal grants for special health projects, monitors their progress, and works with regional-federal staff to implement and review them. These documents relate to the Appalachian Regional Commission Health program's responsibility for the design, testing, and implementation of evaluation methods, system, and analysis for all projects created under the authority of Section 202 of the Appalachian Regional Development Act of 1965 and funded on the federal, state, and local level in Georgia. This includes an ARC project information system encompassing all current and future projects and providing for the collection and maintenance of information on the current status of all 202 projects funded in the state. The files include: (1) inspection and progress reports, (2) correspondence and memoranda produced by state interdepartmental and federal state communication on the administering and funding of health projects, (3) materials documenting meetings, (4) grant and project applications, and (5) working papers. Some of the subjects cover: (1) Health Care to Special Groups: (a) Intervention Program for High-Risk Parents, (b) Maternal and Child Health (MATCH), (c) Maternal and Infant Care, (d) Georgia Mountains Area Planning and Development Commission (GMAPDC) Senior Companion, (2) Health Care to General Population (a) Primary Mental Health, (b) Primary Health Care, (c) Home Health, (3) Education: (a) Hospital Patient Education, (b) Floyd Junior College Nursing Baccalaureate, (c) North Georgia College Nursing Education.
