Governor - Policy Dept. - Year 2000 (Y2K) Subject Files
Scope and Contents
This series consists of those records created and kept by the Governor’s Office to deal with the Y2K computer issue. The Year 2000 (Y2K) issue centered on the fact that many computer systems and other information technologies were not designed to recognize dates after 1999. While simple to define, the implications were global. Any system application, embedded technology or hardware environment that used date driven calculations had the potential to function incorrectly or not at all as a result of the millennium date change to 2000. These records record the amount of planning and industry that went into making sure those systems which are needed to support everyday societal functions would not fail when the date changed.
