Scope and Contents
This series consists of the city council minutes of Sasser, Georgia, which was incorporated February 21, 1891. They document the regular monthly sessions of the city council and special meetings called for the purpose of investigating some particular problem such as a town official appearing intoxicated on the main street of Sasser. Included in the minutes are copies of bonds. The records cover such subjects as: (1) Finances: (a) taxes levied by town (b) fees levied by town (c) payment for services (d) payment of salaries of town officials (2) Town elections (3) Maintenance of town facilities (a) streets and bridges (b) school house (c) town well (d) change of location of the public "necessary house" (4) Health, especially ordinances relating to small pox (5) Town building codes(6) Other topics relating to the operation of the town. These minutes are useful for giving a researcher a picture of life in a small town in south Georgia.
