This material quite succinctly documents the formation and evolution of the Jekyll Island Authority and its transformation of Jekyll Island into one of the seven wonders of Georgia. For example, the records illustrate the various revenue raising schemes considered or actually undertaken by the Authority and include an example of a capital improvements budget proposed some years after the Authority's inception. There are blueprints detailing the construction of several public buildings, correspondence on the establishment of several fine motels and hotels, public comments commending the Authority for the "Golden Isle" vacation spot, and requests to the Authority for employment on the Island. All of these records were collected by Ben W. Fortson Jr., Secretary of State (1946-1979), one of the members of the Authority's governing body. As the series title indicates, the contents are quite varied in physical form and content.
