Human Resources - Human Development - Departmental News Releases
Scope and Contents
These news releases of the Department of Human Resources Public Information Office are rarely mare than four pages in length. They illustrate the varied areas of interest of this multifaceted department. Among the subject areas dealt with in these news releases are: (1) welfare programs (2) programs for the aged (3) foster care for children (4) vocational rehabilitation (5) drug abuse (6) meetings of the Human Resources Board (7) itineraries of department officials (8) departmental appointments, resignations and retirements (9) items concerning events or conditions in local offices. As the name implies, the chief intent of the authors of these news items is to inform the general public and the department personnel of changes, innovations and services offered in programs administered by the Department of Human Resources and to further explain how to avail oneself of these services. Consequently, they provide an insight into contemporary social problems in Georgia. It is interesting to note that although each news release is brief, phone numbers are always included for those readers who wish to pursue the subject addressed in greater depth. The volume of the news releases is impressive with as many as four or five separate numbers released in a single day and occasional lengthy treatments of four or five parts each of such weighty subjects as welfare fraud or problems of the aged. Please consult Series 13-17 for other publications of the Public Information Office.
