Scope and Contents

This volume contains a day-by-day journal and a ledger of entries, both relating to land to be granted in Washington and Franklin counties. The journal portion covers the period 1784 April 6 through 1784 May 26 and gives opinions and decisions relating to issuing warrants and surveying in the two counties. Instructions to the Surveyor General and his assistants are also included. The ledger portion of the volume, covering the period 1784 May 24 through 1785 February 21 shows the person's name who was petitioning for land, date the petition was received, number of acres in the petition, and a consecutive number assigned to each transaction. A list of duplicate warrants is given in the rear of the volume, showing the person's name, number of acres, warrant number, whether purchased or not, and the county in which the land was located.
