Civil War Centennial Commission - Chairman - Beverly M. Dubose, Jr., Correspondence
Scope and Contents
This series, almost exclusively correspondence, both incoming and carbon copies of replies, documents virtually every phase of DuBose's two positions in the Georgia Civil War Centennial Commission. From August 12, 1959 to August 2, 1963, DuBose was Chairman of the Pageants and Re-enactments Committee of the Commission, chaired at that time by Hon. Peter Zack Geer. During this period DuBose's correspondence was very limited, there being only one letter for the year 1961 and none at all for 1962. On August 2, 1963, DuBose was appointed by Governor Carl Sanders to the Chairmanship of the full Commission and the volume of letters increased concurrently. Much of this correspondence deals with invitations to various commemorative functions, arrangements for ceremonies, reenactments and conventions, and interaction between commissions of the various states and the national organization.
