Governor - Public Officials' Commissions - County and State Officials Performance Bonds
Scope and Contents
This series contains two basic forms. The most common is the state form which indicated that the official, either state or county, as principal had secured at least two and not more than ten solvent individuals who were permanent Georgia residents as sureties who bound the principal to the Governor of Georgia. A specific sum was indicated and the term of the bond corresponded to a specific term in office. The second form is a notarized legal document drawn up by a bonding company and approved by a Georgia judge. The company served as the surety in lieu of the several individuals indicated on the state form. The bonding companies were most often headquartered outside of Georgia. The information provided was similar if not identical to that provided on the state form.
