Georgia Archives - Public Reference Service - Registration Logs
Scope and Contents
These registers, commonly referred to as guest books, contain a chronological listing of researchers and guests visiting the Georgia Department of Archives and History for research purposes only. The volumes vary considerably in size and shape over the years and in content as well. In earlier years, only names and very brief addresses were requested. After August 16, 1965, the date of the opening of the new facility, the newly instituted card numbers and complete addresses were required of the researchers. There is a large gap in the date sequence, and some duplication as well, so it is important to check the dates listed on the finding aid. There is also a book, designated as #M-1, which was maintained in the Microfilm Library for a brief period and which duplicates the register maintained at the Reception Desk. When Saturday hours began on July 11, 1970, a separate volume was begun for weekend patrons. This register is designated #S-1. All the remaining volume numbers should be ignored as there is much duplication. The numbers appearing on the finding aid are included only for inventory purposes. For log books recording visitors who came to the Archives strictly for business purposes, please see RGSGSERIES 4 - 2 - 48.
