Georgia Archives - Public Reference Service - Central Research Newsclipping Files
Scope and Contents
This series contains newspaper clippings collected from local newspapers by the Central Research Section's staff over a period of 15 years. The subjects of the clippings were chosen based on what requests were most often forthcoming from Search Room patrons. Naturally historical and genealogical subjects predominate with an almost exclusive Georgia geographical focus. The clippings are arranged chronologically in two time sequences of several years' duration each, and then alphabetically by subject. A problem lies in the fact that the two subject listings are not identical even though there is some cross referencing between the two lists. There are furthermore several exceptions to the alphabetical order. At the conclusion of the second list are several special categories of clippings including complete sets of feature articles entitled Georgia Album and Georgia Notebook, special sets of articles on kidnappings of such prominent individuals as Patty Hearst and Reg Murphy and a rather lengthy of clippings of articles on prominent names in the news filed under the heading "People." The names themselves are not listed. Copies of these lists of subject headings are located in the front of Box 1.
