Governor - Public Officials' Commissions - Executive Appointees Recommendations Files
Scope and Contents
This series contains documentation related to the selection and appointment of members to various executive boards, commissions, and committees. Most documentation consists of letters of recommendation to the Governor from the general public, government officials and the Governor's political supporters. Also included are lists of prospective appointees compiled by the office staff and intra-office memoranda relating to the selecting and appointing of candidates. Some letters, memoranda and other papers discuss the policies and operations of the board to which an appointment is being considered. Occasionally there are letters opposing the appointment of candidates.
Usually for each board there are photocopies of pages from a register of persons commissioned, giving: (1) name and purpose of the board; (2) how the law provides for members to be appointed; (3) name and address of each appointee; (4) beginning and ending dates of each appointee's term; (5) date of confirmation by the State Senate; and (6) names of each appointee's predecessor and successor.
