This series consists of (but is not limited to): (1) press releases (2) miscellaneous pamphlets (3) proclamations (4) bills and resolutions (5) executive orders (6) biographical sketches of appointees (7) photographs of appointees (8) budget requests (9) news clippings (10) correspondence (11) related papers The News Press Division, headed by the News Secretary, is responsible for the public relations of the Executive Department. The Division prepares press releases of the Governor's statements and programs; assists the Governor in preparing, recording and transcribing his speeches and monitors public opinion. Beginning with the administration of Gov. Herman Talmadge, the earlier press releases are nothing more than tear sheets off a news ticker. Consequently, a majority of these earlier releases do not have specific dates and contain added information for the typesetter at the newspaper. Later news releases were (and still are) prepared by the News Division as handouts to be given to the media. To show a vast difference in administrative procedure, Gov. George Busbee's releases are often duplicated and sometimes triplicated in the same file folder. Gov. Lester Maddox had "Special News Release" captioned on top of many of his releases, but it is not known if these releases were handled any differently from the others.
