Scope and Contents

The collection includes correspondence and memos relating to Cox's career. Also included is his sketchbook from Clemson College (1912/13); a published book by A. B. Butler of World War I cartoons depicting soldiers' experiences, photographs of Atlanta's highway development; and certificates and publicity from professional engineering organizations.

Biographical / Historical

Moses Eugene Cox was born in Laurens County, South Carolina on June 15, 1894. During World War I, he served as a 1st lieutenant in Company E Engineers (1917-Sept 1918) and Captain in 1st Engineers Battalion, 2nd Brigade (Sept 1918-Feb 1919). He married Gladys Watson Cox on December 27, 1921. Moses E. Cox was a state highway engineer from 1933-1934 and member of the Army Corps of Engineers during and after World War II. He was dischaged from the military in 1954. During his military career he recieved the Croix de Guerre and the Legion of Merit decorations. He died in DeKalb County, Georgia on October 20, 1964. He is buried in the Decatur Cemetery in DeKalb County, Georgia.
