Biographical / Historical

Walker G., Hiram W., and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Camp were the children of Hiram and Peninah Reynolds Camp of Newnan, Coweta County, Georgia. The two brothers enlisted in the 7th Regiment Georgia Infantry, Company A. The George W. Reynolds family of Coweta County had moved to Louisiana by the 1850s. When their son William M. came back to visit relatives, he met and courted his first cousin, Lizzie Camp; but her father forbad them to marry. In July 1863 William was on leave with rheumatism from the 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry, Company G, returned to Coweta County, and married Lizzie, now of age, within the week. William was a businessman, running hotels and dry goods stores. They and their four daughters (one named Lily) lived in Newnan (Coweta County, Georgia) and in Birmingham, Alabama, at various times after the war.
