James and T. N. Paden family store account books
Scope and Contents
Record of sales of general merchandise by members of the Paden family of Decatur, citing date, name of account, type of merchandise, and cost. The 1832 - 1868 volume also records some books purchased by the Union Sunday School, 1846. The 1859 - 1878 volume also contains handwritten entries concerning weights and measures, arithmetic exercises, and several compositions by James R. Paden.

Biographical / Historical
The Paden family of Decatur in DeKalb County, Georgia, was involved in the sale of general merchandise. They were apparently connected by marriage to the B. W. Black family who gave these books to the donor.

Arranged by type of record. Organized in two volumes: (1) account books and Sunday School purchases, 1832 - 1868 and (2) account book and James R. Paden school work, 1859 - 1878.
Custodial History
The books were given to the donor by Maggie Phelps Black, wife of B. W. Black, an employee of the Trust Co. of Georgia. The Blacks were related to the Padens through Mr. Black's mother.
