Shepard Ezekiel Perkins Diary
Scope and Contents
In his diary, Perkins writes about agriculture on his farm, livestock, and the weather. The record tells of daily events such as a visit from his daughter, Babe (Augusta P. Lake); loading melons for his son-in-law, Abe Chance; and the worsening illness of his youngest sister, Susan, in Augusta, who died the day after the diary ends.

Biographical / Historical
Shepard Ezekiel Perkins (1829 - 1899) was the son of Rebecca Brinson (1794 - 1859) and David Perkins (1773 - 1857) of Burke County, Georgia, and worked as a farmer and miller. He married first Susan W. Clark (1835 - 1874) of New York and, second, her sister, Emeline Clark Perkins, a widow on November 10, 1875 in Richmond County, Georgia. Shepard's children listed in the census include: Augusta Paris Perkins De Asia Lake, Francis L. Perkins, and Mirabaur Perkins (Muakaw/Mirabeau Diocletian Lamar Perkins, might be same child), Capers Durant Perkins (d. 1922), Sudie Mabel Perkins Lovaine, Sherpard "Watson" Perkins (maybe Emiline's son). Shepard Ezekiel Perkins died in 1879 (his will is available online, filed 1877, Burke County, Georgia, Wills, 1856 - 1931 starting on page 47.
