Letters from Twiggs County, Georgia, Washington County, Georgia, North Carolina, and Alabama among the Grist, Bryan, and Grimes families, mainly by Frederick Grist in North Carolina and a Sarah Bryan of Washington County, Georgia, probably his wife's niece. Some letters mention slaves and freedmen. Early letters describe settling in Twiggs County, Georgia, in 1813 and traveling through Alabama in 1828. There is also genealogical information.

Biographical / Historical
Frederick (1767 - 1811) and Richard Grist (b. 1773) were the sons of Richard and Ann Hill Slade Grist. Frederick lived in Beaufort County, North Carolina, and married Elizabeth, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Maule Bryan; while Richard married Ann Zilpha (b. 1775), daughter of John Bryan, and moved to Washington County, Georgia. Elizabeth had many siblings, including Edward Bryan (1764 - 1825) who married Penelope Blackshear (1773 - 1839) and moved to Twiggs County, Georgia, and Ann (d. 1828) who married William Grimes in 1790 and lived in Pitt County, North Carolina.
