Biographical / Historical

William was born in Crawford County, Georgia in 1830, and worked as a plantation overseer. He and his wife Martha had several children by 1861 when he enlisted in the 27th Regiment. Georgia Volunteers, Company C, and was elected second lieutenant. He rose to captain of his company by the time he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1865. William died in 1913
