Biographical / Historical

First established as LaGrange Female Seminary in Troup County, Georgia, in 1843, the school underwent several changes and was called Southern Female College at the time of its removal to College Park, Fulton County, Georgia, in 1895. The institution was famous throughout the South for musical education provided and the concert tours presented in such places as the Grand Opera House in Atlanta. Because of the primary influence of the Cox family as administrators and teachers, it gradually took on the name Cox College and Conservatory early in the 20th Century.
