Collection consists of estate records, compiled genealogy, newspaper recipes, correspondence, deeds and indentures, and certificates and diplomas relating to the Whaley, Carmichael, Stevens, Smith, Gibbes, Eve, Laue, Pritchart, Bitfield, Thomas, Lord, Davis, and Stanyarne families. Most of it relates to Richmond County, Georgia.

Biographical / Historical
John Carmichael (1775-1847) immigrated from North Ireland to Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. His second wife was Mary E. Eve (1786-1855), mother of most of his children, including the youngest, Henrietta M. Carmichael (1831-1903). She married William Smith Stevens (1829-1898) and bore four children, including Anna Belle (1857-ca. 1918) who in turn married Christopher Jenkins Whaley (1857-1891) of South Carolina.
