Scope and Contents

Manuscript of "A Short History of Jesse Samples Williams, Written by Himself," with a preface dated March 1900, 62 pages. Gives the life of this Baptist preacher and publisher of Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia, with information of the Samples, his mother's people, and his intermittent participation in the Civil War as part of his brother Henry C. Williams' unit in the 22nd Regiment Georgia Volunteers and later the 2nd Regiment Georgia Militia. Afterwards he attempted to settle in Texas for a short while, and an 1870 letter from that state to his brother Henry is included.
