Biographical / Historical

The school began as the Southern Female College in 1851 in Covington, Newton County, Georgia. In 1852, the school was changed to the Southern Masonic Female College and remained under the control of the Masons until 1882. Several changes after that resulted in a final merger with the Newton County public schools by 1910.
