Creator

Biographical / Historical

In 1862, the first Confederate hospital in Georgia was organized and equipped in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. It is not known whether this was the hospital documented by the General Hospital account book, however. Wounded soldiers were cared for in whatever spaces were available, even before the war moved to Georgia, and these were often designated as "hospitals." In 1861 Macon women organized the Ladies Relief Society, and they furnished food and supplies to the hospitals.
