M. D. Collins papers
Scope and Contents
This collection includes marriage records kept as a function of Mr. Collins' position as pastor (duplicated by Campbell County court records). Correspondence (1953-1959) produced by Collins' membership and offices in the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Improved Order of Red Men. The Mechanics' correspondence includes work done against the integration of schools. For related official records of the Superintendent of Schools, see Record Group 12.

Biographical / Historical
M. D. Collins was the son of Mary Louise Jackson and Archibald Benjamin Collins of Union County, Georgia. He worked as a farm laborer, schoolteacher, and minister before serving as Georgia Superintendent of Schools from 1933-1958. M. D. Collins was also pastor of Fairburn's Friendship Baptist Church and belonged to many service organizations.
