Thomas C. Omary family papers
Scope and Contents
Primarily Civil War letters of Thomas C. Omary or O'Mary to his wife, Elizabeth, in Bowdon, Georgia, while he was serving in the 56th Regiment Georgia Volunteers, Company C in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in Tennessee, and in north Georgia. In May 1864, he was in a Kentucky prison. Also included are the letters of Elizabeth's Arnold family in Carroll County, Georgia, and of the Langfords in Warren County, North Carolina.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Christmas O'Mary was the son of Caleb and Kathryn O'Mary of Warren County, North Carolina. He married Elizabeth Arnold in Carroll County, Georgia, in 1853 and reared a large family there and in Alabama, where they moved after the Civil War. Elizabeth was the daughter of Elizabeth Portwood and John Thomas Arnold.
