Scope and Contents
Letters to Hutchins from various Georgia and southeastern places concerning legal matters, mainly debt collection. A few of the letters appear to be addressed to other family members. The second folder holds lists of slaves owned by different families and also letters that appear to be related to Hutchins' work.

Biographical / Historical
Nathan Louis Hutchins was born in South Carolina to Michael and Mary Hutchins. A lawyer, he moved to Gwinnett County, Georgia, in 1823 and served in the Georgia General Assembly for two terms and as judge of the Superior Court, Western Circuit.
