Scope and Contents

The letters were written to his parents and cover 1862 - 1864. The diary runs from March - September 1864. Both give detailed accounts of daily life from the soldier's point of view. The longest letter, July 4, 1862, describes the Battle of Cold Harbor.

Noble John Brooks was the son of William C. and Mary Timmons Brook(e) who lived in Bartow County, Georgia. He was well-read as is evidenced by both letters and diary. Noble John served in Georgia's Cobb's Legion.
