Biographical / Historical
New Homemakers of America, made up of well-established state homemaking programs, was founded after World War II to give African American girls an organization similar to Future Homemakers of America. Daisy L. Lewis was active in the profession all her life. A counseling teacher of Home Economics Education, Daisy was also an itinerant teacher trainer of Home Making Education at Fort Valley State College, then a teachers college. Her 1949 master's thesis was titled "A Functional Adult Program for Negro Homemakers in Georgia." Daisy may have been born in Alabama to Thomas and Lula Lewis.
