Biographical / Historical
Darlene Roth, historian, and Ann E. Pederson, assistant director at the Georgia Department of Archives and History, incorporated the Women's Records Project of Georgia, Inc. in 1976 "with the purpose of increasing the awareness of the historical importance of women in Georgia and Southeast by identifying the documentary evidence of women's roles in society and by promoting the preservation of such evidence by research institutions." As a result of their work, the International Women's Year oral history project was created to document delegates' experiences at the International Women's Year National Women's Conference in Houston, Texas in November 1977. Additionally, the records of many current Georgia women's organizations, such as Pilot Club International, the League of Women Voters, and the American Association of University Women, were deposited at the state archives.
