Biographical / Historical
John was born in North Carolina to Pennsylvania settlers, Rebecca Butler and John Willcox. He married Mary Lea and moved to Georgia about 1807, settling in what was Telfair County, Georgia, a short time later. John was a planter and mechanic, building and operating pole boats along the Ocmulgee River. Clark was one of the youngest of his fourteen children.
