This collection includes letters and newspaper clippings removed from a scrapbook kept by Whitaker. Some pertain to legal business; many are notes from female cousins and friends, including his future wife, many from Alabama. One 1876 note is from Alexander H. Stephens at Liberty Hall.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas Whitaker was the son of Margaret E. Bigham and James C. Whitaker of Baldwin County, Georgia. He studied law at Oglethorpe University and practiced in LaGrange, Georgia. He married Mary (Mollie) E. Reid, also known as "Dinque."
