John Wilson Civil War letter
Scope and Contents
Letter by Union soldier in the 102nd Regiment New York Volunteers, Company K, while stationed in Atlanta, Georgia, in October 1864 after its capture by General Sherman, written to a Chester Blackwell of Saugerties, Ulster County, New York, about the war and politics. Wilson was probably a bank clerk, which possibly explains the clear handwriting of the letter.

Biographical / Historical
John or Jonathan was possibly Jonathan Dickinson Wilson of Kingston, Ulster County, New York, son of Ann E. and Jonathan Dickinson Wilson, a hatter. He married Anna Robinson in 1868, immigrated to Nebraska, but returned to New York in the 1870s and died in Worcester, New York.
