Biographical / Historical
Berrien and his brother, Dennis L. (ca. 1843 - 1864) were the sons of Dennis and Phoebe Dillard Durden of Emanuel County, Georgia. In 1859, Berry married Elizabeth Jane Rountree, daughter of John and Nancy Kent Rountree, also of that county. When the Civil War began, Berry enlisted in the Cavalry, Cobb's Legion, Company L. While Dennis joined Company H of the 48th Georgia Infantry.
