Baldwin Buckner Miller papers
Scope and Contents
Excellent accounting records describe Miller's management of a large Burke County, Georgia, plantation and are comprised of numerous invoices, receipts, and recorded cotton shipments from Savannah, Georgia, to Liverpool, England, during and after the Civil War. Included also are valuable pre-1856 Burke County estate records (enslaved people are mentioned in family wills), land grants, slave bills of sale, incoming correspondence, and genealogical material. There are virtually no references to Dr. Miller's family except tuition receipts for four of the Miller children studying at Hephzibah High School and Monroe Female College. Although many individuals are mentioned throughout the records, only the Benjamin Lewis and the William H. Baldy estate papers have substantial documents.
