This collection includes a flowery and formal letter from Owen, who was serving in Co. E of the 6th Regt. GA Vols., the "Crawford Greys," to Sallie R. Merritt in Griffin, Georgia. Apparently they had either gone to school together or she was his teacher.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas J. Owen was probably the son of Eliza Ann Feagin and Robert McAfee Owen (sometimes spelled Owens) of Crawford County, Georgia. Although the family moved to Dooly County, Georgia, by 1860, Thomas enlisted in the "Crawford Greys" when the Civil War began.
