Biographical / Historical

This was built as a Patriot fort in 1776 on the bluff where Beard's Creek flows into the Altamaha River, which was in 1790 the border of Liberty County, Georgia. During the American Revolution, the fort protected the state's frontier from both Tory and Creek raids.
