This series consists of two bound volumes of the copies of outgoing correspondence of the Chief Engineer. The correspondence reveals the: details of mail schedules and compensation, setting of some freight rates, convention and exposition rates, competitive strength of water transportation, frailty of the Southern rail system in general, and frailty of the W & A in particular. Scope and Contents
This series consists of unbound voided certificates of indebtedness (bonds) issued by the Board of Commissioners of the Western and Atlantic Railroad and the Governor. These bonds, Numbers 56, 57 and 58, were authorized by Georgia Laws 1837, pp. 210-212. The General Assembly authorized the issuance of $2,000,000 in bonds. These were not marketable but were finally used in obtaining a loan payable in London which at the time was the financial center of the world.
